Kingston, NY- Ulster County Executive Mike Hein received a strong vote of confidence today from New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo. County Executive Hein has been a strong leader for the people of Ulster County and shares the same belief as Governor Cuomo that government can stand for both progressive values and fiscal responsibility. The Governor’s endorsement affirms the importance of County Executive Hein’s reform based agenda.

“To make New York State successful again, government must change and County Executive Mike Hein understands this”, said Governor Cuomo. “He has made the difficult decisions Ulster County needs to protect taxpayers and fight for small business owners. He has shown great courage and leadership and I look forward to having Mike’s continued partnership as we reshape government and build a new New York.”

“I am honored by Governor Cuomo’s endorsement,” said County Executive Hein. “Both Governor Cuomo and I share the same drive to protect taxpayers, help local business and transform government. What both Governor Cuomo and I both firmly believe is that government must change!”

Ulster County Executive Mike Hein is finishing his first term as Ulster County’s first County Executive. County Executive Hein was first elected to public office in 2008 to a three year term following the County’s adoption of a charter form of government. He is running unopposed on the Democratic and Independence Party lines. Since taking office, County Executive Hein has built an administration with an incredible record of reform and looks to continue to transform government in Ulster County.

KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive Michael Hein has asked the county legislature to hold a special meeting to discuss his proposed plans to privatize the Golden Hill Health Care Center.

Hein said he wanted to explain all details and options regarding the future of the nursing home.

“Because I am committed to transparent evaluation of whether it be the LDC (local development corporation) option when it comes to Golden Hill or when it comes to making sure the legislature feels fully informed and has the opportunity to ask any and all questions that they may have,” he said. “This is an important time as we move forward and transition to a new structure that ultimately makes sure that taxpayers are protected.”

KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive Michael Hein Tuesday surveyed the damage in the county by helicopter. Joining him on his flight were County Sheriff Paul Van Blarcum and county emergency management director Arthur Snyder.

“What I saw was, in some areas, limited damage; but in other areas, total devastation,” Hein observed.

Up along the Route 28 corridor, bridges and roadways were completely washed out, Hein said. Frost Valley YMCA camp in Claryville was evacuated due to inaccessible roadways.

“The next step will be identifying our infrastructure needs, how we can make sure that people can move safely around the county and lastly financial impacts.” Financial damage has not yet been determined. “Let there be no mistake, the people of Ulster County are incredibly resilient, and we will rebuild. Ulster County will be what it will always be: The best place anywhere to live.”

REPUBLICAN SHANDAKEN TOWN SUPERVISOR ROB STANLEY ENDORSES MIKE HEIN

FOR ULSTER COUNTY EXECUTIVE

Ulster County, NY— Shankdaken Town Supervisor, Robert A. Stanley, has endorsed Mike Hein for a second term as Ulster County Executive. Supervisor Stanley’s endorsement joined a growing list of Town Supervisors. All of the Democratic Supervisors that have already endorsed Mike Hein for County Executive and this is the third Republican Town Supervisor to do so.

“As Town of Shandaken Supervisor, I wholeheartedly endorse Mike Hein for re-election as Ulster County Executive,” said Shandaken Town Supervisor Robert A. Stanley. Mike and his staff have been readily accessible and eager to assist in the issues Shandaken has faced over my term. Whether the issue involved job losses and economic effects of cuts at Belleayre Mountain, major flooding in Main St., Phoenicia, or other issues concerning the NYC DEP, Mike personally has kept himself abreast of our issues and is genuinely concerned for the well being and betterment of our residents and businesses. He has personally been involved in many of our discussions with other agencies in our area and has been supportive of the Town Board’s perspective when push has come to shove on these issues. I am happy to endorse Mike for a second term and look forward to continuing to foster the relationship he has established with our little mountain town.

I am grateful for Supervisor Stanley’s endorsement,” said Mike Hein. “I remain committed to serving all of the residents of Ulster County. We live in an incredibly diverse, beautiful and geographically large community and, I am honored to serve as County Executive.”
