Kingston, NY– Ulster County Executive Mike Hein was chosen last night as the official Democratic candidate for Ulster County Executive.  He was selected at the 2011 Ulster County Democratic Convention at Hillside Manor by a nominating convention consisting of Democratic Committee Members.

Ulster County Executive Hein said, “I am honored to receive the support of my fellow Democratic Party Members.  Together, we will again champion a campaign that not only puts the taxpayers first but focuses upon a proven record of leadership and results.”

Mike Hein has demonstrated that he is the right leader for the right time for the people of Ulster County,” said Democratic Chairman Julian Schreibman.  “With only 3 years in office, County Executive Hein has made Ulster County a true model of reform, innovation and integrity.”

County Executive Hein was nominated by Ulster County Legislator Alan Lomita.  Legislator Lomita said, “Whether he is speaking with the Governor in Albany, Congressman Hinchey in Washington or one of his Ulster County constituents from the rural mountain tops of Shandaken to the city streets of Kingston, Mike has been tireless in pushing for change in Ulster County.”  He continued, “When we enacted the Charter we hoped that Ulster County would find a leader to protect our residents and make Ulster County one of the finest places to live, work and raise a family.  I am happy to say that we have found that leader and his name is Mike Hein.”

Ulster County Comptroller, Elliot Auerbach seconded the County Executive’s nomination.   Auerbach stated, “As Ulster County’s first Comptroller, I am very aware of the difficulties that existed when Mike Hein took office.  And as the first Comptroller, I am also very aware of the incredible job the Mike has done, not only at taking on those challenges, but overcoming them.”

County Executive Hein is running for a second term as Ulster County’s first County Executive.
