Hein to explore merger of Ulster Health and Mental Health Depts
Posted: Mar 9, 2011February 24, 2011 – Hein said he would appoint County Health Director Dr. La Mar Hasbrouck to also assume the duties of mental health commissioner. That will provide an opportunity to evaluate the coordination of multiple health service delivery systems, the county executive said. Aside from improving service coordination, the county executive said the merger would immediately save the county about $57,000 annualized.

Posted: Dec 29, 2010December 29, 2010 – The way snowplowing is now handled in Ulster County translated into a sizeable savings to county taxpayers earlier this week. It used to cost close to $51,000 to plow, sand and salt in a typical snowstorm, but County Executive Michael Hein said Tuesday that it cost only $18,000 because the county has gone to one person in a snowplow vehicle, instead of the two that used to be the norm.

Once approved by the county legislature and the city’s common council, the county will perform the emergency and fire dispatch function for Kingston.
